Cockburnspath Primary School & Nursery

Cockburnspath Primary School is at the heart of our village community, providing a welcoming, nurturing and inclusive environment for children from Nursery through to Primary 7.

With a strong focus on helping every child to learn, grow, succeed and smile, the school is a place where children are encouraged to be curious, confident and independent, while developing strong relationships with their classmates, teachers, families and the wider community. The school’s shared values of Kind, Respectful, Safe, Resilient and Successful are at the centre of school life.

The Nursery provides Early Learning and Childcare for children aged 3 and 4, offering a creative, play-based curriculum in a happy, safe and secure environment. Children are encouraged to explore, develop friendships, build independence and learn through their own interests and experiences.

One of the school’s great strengths is its setting. With the beach, woodland and beautiful Berwickshire countryside right on the doorstep, outdoor learning is an important part of school life. Children have opportunities to explore their surroundings, learn about nature and the environment, and connect their classroom learning with the world around them.

Cockburnspath Primary School & Nursery is very much part of the wider Cockburnspath community. The children regularly take part in activities and experiences beyond the classroom, building connections with local organisations and making the most of the wonderful natural environment around the village.

The school and nursery also enjoy links with the Cockburnspath Community Garden, where children can get hands-on experience growing plants and vegetables, learning where food comes from and discovering the joys of gardening and caring for the environment.

These experiences help children develop not only their knowledge and skills, but also a real sense of belonging and pride in their local community. A supportive Parent Council also plays an important role in bringing families together, supporting the school and helping to provide additional opportunities and events for the children.
